Barely three days in the saddle as Acting Director General of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Executive Director of Finance and Administration, Mr. Calistus Nwabueze Obi, has been displaced by Mr. Baba Haruna Jauro.

Obi was earlier in the week announced as the Acting DG.

It was gathered that Obi was not the “most senior officer” at the agency; hence he should not have taken over from former Patrick Akpobolokemi, who was relieved of his position by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Consequently, Jauro, being the “most senior officer” has formally assumed the position of the agency’s Acting DG/Chief Executive Officer.

This may have followed his formal protest against Akpobolokemi at the Federal Ministry of Transport and Office of the Head of Service of the Federation.

NIMASA was yet to issue a press statement on the new development at press time and it was unclear why Akpobolokemi chose to hand over to Obi, despite protests by Jauro.

The Guardian gathered Obi, Jauro and the Executive Director, Maritime Safety and Shipping Development were all appointed by former President Jonathan same day, July 24, 2012.

But Jauro is claiming seniority from the fact that he resumed duties at the Maritime House 24 hours ahead of the others.
