Jibrin Yusuf, 25, was detained by the Katsina State Police Command after he is accused of killing an eight-year-old girl and raping her in the village of Kanon-Haki in the state’s Faskari Local Government Area.
The incident happened on August 2, according to ASP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the command’s spokeswoman, who was parading the suspect on Thursday, August 17, 2023.
According to the PPRO, “The fact of the case is that on that fateful day, one Hassan Jibrin, the late victim’s father, employed the suspect to transport fertilizer from one of his farms to another located on the outskirts of the village, while the victim was assigned to guard the fertilizer at one of the farms as her father attended to some laborers.”
“The suspect took advantage of the young girl and pulled her against her will to a nearby farm where he raped her and killed her with a sharp knife.
The corpse was then relocated to another countryside, where he covered it with leaves and fled with three sacks of fertilizer.
The PPRO further stated that as soon as investigators learned of the report, they sprang into action and were successful in capturing the culprit.
The suspect is said to have admitted to rape over the course of the investigation.
The suspect would be charged as soon as the inquiry was over, he stressed.
