A randy pastor, Alfred Idonogie has been sentenced to two years in jail for defiling a 10-year- old girl. He was sentenced on Friday by an Egor Magistrate Court, Benin, presided over by Chief Magistrate, Taye Omoruyi. The convict was, however, given an option of fine of N200, 000. Chief Magistrate Omoruyi found Idonogie guilty after the prosecutor called five witnesses to prove the charge. The court held that the prosecution witnesses, the victim, her grandmother, the investigating police office and a medical doctor established that there was penetration into the little girl’s private part.

The court also held that the accused committed the offence on June 25, 2012 at Onaghino street, Medical stores Road, Benin City. Meanwhile, Counsel to the convict, U. Osa-Uwagie has indicated his interest to contest the judgment. In her remark, Coordinator, Edo State Child Protection Network, Jennifer Ero, who took up the matter, said the judgment was a victory for the child and urged other stakeholders to be committed to the fight against child abuse.
