The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 49-year-old man, identified as Wasiu Arogege for allegedly raping a 19-year-old student of Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech), Lagos.
The State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni who confirmed the case, stated that the man had earlier promised the student (Names withheld) N20,000 to buy a baking oven for her restaurant and bar business.
Reports gathered that the student visited the suspect at his residence on Ojuelegba Road to get the money as earlier promised. On getting to his house, Arogege allegedly gave her N2,000 and pledged to give her the balance later.
Arogege asked for more from the student as a form of appreciation but she replied that she had already said ‘Thank you, sir’. He was said to have beaten her into submission and then raped her.
Arogege, on the other hand, has denied the allegation, saying the lady in question is his girlfriend. He said: “I beat her up because she refused to have s3x with me in appreciation of my kindness towards her. I did not rape her.”
