Twenty-seven out of the thirty legislators in the Sokoto State House of Assembly have defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC. The affected lawmakers joined the APC from the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, which has been battling with a major turbulence since 2013.
The 27 defecting members of the State House of Assembly took the decision to join the APC on Wednesday in solidarity with the state governor, Aliyu Wamakko, who joined the APC from the PDP along with five governors in 2013.
The lawmakers, after leaving the Assembly complex on Wednesday, headed for the Government House in Sokoto to inform Wamakko of their decisions.
One of the lawmakers who spoke said, “We are moving in line with the decision of his excellency Gov Wammako to also move over to the APC. The PDP umbrella is torn and we have to follow the wishes of our people.”
The other three legislators, as we gathered, might join their colleagues when they return to the House. They were not present today to witness the massive defections
