A 30-year-old living with sickle cell, Taiwo Oluwabiyi, has kidnapped his father, Mr Abiodun Oluwabiyi, after he saw a cheque of N10m signed in the latter’s name.

The lawyer, who appeared for the suspect, Mr. Niyi Kosole, told the Osogbo magistrate’s court presided over by Mr. Olelekan Ijiyode that Taiwo kidnapped his father after he saw a cheque of N10m written in his father’s name.

Kosole, who applied for Taiwo’s bail, told the court that the suspect was living with sickle cell anemia and had been remanded in custody since February, 2012.

According to the charge sheet obtained on Friday, Taiwo and some other suspects, who are currently at large, stormed the residence of Oluwabiyi in Orafidodo Street, Fajuyi area of Ile-Ife on February 19.

The suspects, who bore guns, machetes and a liquid substance suspected to be acid, kidnapped their victim and drove him to an unknown destination. They were also accused of robbing Oluwabiyi of a Mercedes Benz  car with number plate PA 90 KJA – worth N1.5m and two Nokia phones.

The lawyer said the suspect’s father was willing to withdraw the charge against his son. Oluwabiyi told the court that he was willing and ready to discontinue with the case. But the magistrate turned down the application of the victim, saying the course of justice must not be perverted over sentiments. Ijiyode recalled that the victim was the one that called the police to investigate the matter.

He said, “If a child could gather hoodlums and proceed to attack his father, then he should be ready to face the wrath of the law.”Subsequently, Ijiyode remanded the suspect and adjourned the case till May 10, 2012 for mention.
