Omoyele Sowore, the African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate for the upcoming 2027 general elections, has claimed he and his team were subjected to a violent attack in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State. Sowore specifically pointed fingers at the Ekiti State Government and the Department of State Services (DSS), alleging their direct involvement in sponsoring and facilitating the assault.

The prominent activist and politician detailed the accusations in a public statement, asserting that the assailants were directly linked to the Government House and received both tracking and operational support from the DSS.

Details of the Alleged Incident

According to Sowore, the trouble began immediately upon his team’s arrival in the state capital. He recounted that DSS operatives initiated surveillance, trailing his group and exerting pressure on local residents. He specifically mentioned a restaurant manager who reportedly faced threats for allowing his team to use the premises.

The physical attack, Sowore alleged, occurred shortly after he concluded a radio interview at MIDAS FM 90.5 in Ado-Ekiti. He claimed that thugs ambushed his team as they departed the station, with the DSS purportedly providing backing to those who carried out the assault.

Sowore unequivocally stated his accusations on social media:

He further elaborated, “This is the level of infamy to which Nigeria has been subjected! Those who brutally attacked us in Ado-Ekiti today came from the Government House @ekitistategov. They are well known, and they were provided with tracking and operational support by the @OfficialDSSNG.” Prior to this detailed account, Sowore had also separately claimed that he and members of his team were attacked and kidnapped in Ado-Ekiti.

No Official Response Yet

As of the time Sowore’s allegations circulated widely online, neither the Ekiti State Government nor the Department of State Services had issued any public statement or response to his serious accusations.

Broader Political Context

Sowore’s 2027 presidential ambition has previously drawn commentary from other political figures. Legit.ng earlier reported that Ajibola Basiru, the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), dismissed Sowore’s intentions to launch his campaign council at the Presidential Villa. Basiru challenged Sowore to first secure a seat in a state House of Assembly before pursuing a presidential bid. The APC national secretary also defended President Tinubu’s re-election prospects, citing the party’s substantial membership and recent election successes.
