The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) on Friday said 17 people, all male adults, died in an auto crash on Ilorin-Jebba expressway.
The Sector Commander in Kwara, Mary Wakawa, told newsmen in Ilorin that 10 people sustained various degrees of injuries.
She said that the crash involved an articulated vehicle with registration numberXD 762 KNT and two Toyota buses with registration numbers TAK 113 XA and XC 185 NSK.
The commander noted that the accident happened at Peke Village, Kilometre 16, New Jebba Road, at exactly where the dual carriage way ended at about 3.30 a.m.
Wakawa said the corpses of the deceased had been deposited at theUniversity of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH).
She added that two victims who were severely injured had been taken to Sobi Specialist Hospital, while others with minor injuries were receiving treatment at UITH.
The sector commander, who blamed the accident on attitude of some drivers, warned against night journeys, saying “it portends great danger.’’
She noted that the crash might have been caused by fatigue, leading to sleep on the part of the drivers, lso, visibility is always poor at night.”
The FRSC boss said assistance may be difficult to get in case any situation that may warrant it occurred while on night journey.
