The girl who was living with her sister in the estate, was allegedly raped when she went to buy a sachet of milk from the Mallam around 8p.m.

The public relations officer of the Rivers State Police Command, Omoni Nnamdi said the command is unaware of the victim’s death.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Rivers State chapter has called for the immediate and speedy prosecution of the suspect.

NAWOJ chairman in Rivers State, Lilian Okonkwo, called on judges in the state to refuse any bail application for the suspect and ensure that justice is done in the matter.

Okonkwo also advised parents not to send their female children on errands at night to prevent them from being raped.

She said NAWOJ has contacted the International Federation of Female Lawyers, FIDA, which is also interested in the matter.
