A shocking case of violence among children has emerged from the Ejigbo area of Lagos State. A 10-year-old boy, identified only as Israel, allegedly strangled his friend, Ezekiel, also 10 years old, during a football match in the community on Friday.
According to police sources, the two boys were engaged in a football game when an argument ensued between them. In the heat of the moment, Israel reportedly grabbed Ezekiel by the neck and strangled him until he lost consciousness and stopped breathing.
Eyewitnesses rushed the lifeless body of Ezekiel to the hospital, where the doctor on duty confirmed him dead. The police were alerted, and a team of detectives visited the scene, photographing the body before transferring it to the General Hospital in Isolo for a post-mortem examination.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident, stating that the suspect, Israel, is currently in police custody, and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic event is ongoing.
This harrowing incident has raised concerns about the potential dangers of unsupervised play among children and the need for increased awareness and interventions to prevent such tragic occurrences in the future.
