The police have released the well-known prankster, Zfancy, from custody after a week. On Wednesday, July 10, a police statement confirmed that he was granted bail and entrusted to the Practitioners of Content Creation, Skit-Making and Influencers Guild of Nigeria (PCCSIGN).
Zfancy, who was previously arrested on July 3 in an Abuja apartment for filming prank videos that appeared to portray serious crimes such as rape, has been set free. The police clarified on July 4 that he was apprehended in connection with one of his prank videos but later confirmed that the videos were staged and scripted solely for entertainment purposes.
After his release, Zfancy was officially cautioned by the authorities to refrain from creating pranks that could potentially disrupt public peace or cause disturbances. Mr. Zion Ubani, also known as Zfancy, was released on bail to the officials of the Practitioners of Content Creation, Skit-Making and Influencers Guild of Nigeria (PCCSIGN) at the Force Headquarters on the 10th of July, 2024. The delegation, led by Mr. Tokoni Peter Igoin, Special Assistant to the President on ICT Development and Digital Innovation, met with the authorities.
The police had arrested Mr. Ubani over prank videos that implicated him in serious crimes, like rape, and later confirmed that these videos were scripted. He has been cautioned to avoid creating pranks that could lead to public disturbances. In addition, the NPF encourages content creators to use social media responsibly and refrain from sharing misinformation that could incite public disorder.
