A bad case of acne is every girl’s nightmare. It’s even worse, when you discover that your acne is aggravated by make-up products; so you can’t even hide the spots. Treating acne and taking care of your skin takes a lot of effort and commitment, so it can be frustrating if you discover that your make-up is making all your efforts towards nicer skin futile. Well, there are ways in which you can look great, and even feel better without jeopardizing your war on acne. Follow these tips and be sure to see results.
1. Say No to chemicals. When dealing with the human body, natural is always the way to go; with foodstuff and now, with make-up. Stay away from products with too many harsh chemicals such as parabens and sulfates. These products dry the skin and cause allergic reactions, thus aggravating the acne. Choose make-up with the simplest and most natural ingredients. Mineral make-up is as good as it gets; look for products with titanium dioxide or silica.
2. Moisturise. Most people I know who have acne do not moisturise their faces. I don’t know but people think that moisturising aggravates acne. This is not true! Since most acne treatments dry out the skin, it is important that moisturising becomes a part of the skin-care routine, so as to replenish any lost moisture for firm, supple skin. Choose a light-weight, oil free moisturiser labelled “non-comodogenic”. This means that it won’t clog your pores. Stay away from shea butter and cocoa butter, they clog the pores.
3. Use Sunscreen. You might be dark-skinned, but you need sunscreen too. The harmful rays from the sun irritate the skin and can even cause cancers. Wear make-up products that have an SPF (Sun Protection Factor) of at least 30 which protects from UVA and UVB rays. Make sure the product is light and water-based.
4. Less is More. This rule applies when using foundation, blush, and powder. You don’t need a lot of any of these products. Use a light-weight, sheer foundation; wait for it to dry before going ahead with your routine. Apply powder only if you have areas that shine heavily. Put the blush lightly over the apples of your cheeks. Any products that cause contact dermatitis should be thrown out without further ado.
Now, you can use make-up without worrying about the acne. Until next week, stay beautiful folks!
