After serving his country judiciously as a player and captain of the Super Eagles- garnering 101 caps for the country in the process- Joseph Yobo has announced plans for retirement.

To commemorate Yobo’s exit from the beautiful game, a testimonial match tagged ‘The Joseph Yobo Centenary Game’, will be held to mark his outstanding achievement over the years.

Speaking at a press conference held on Tuesday at the Eko Hotel and Suites, the 35-year-old said the testimonial match would feature world-renowned players whom he has played with over the course of his career.

He said since word got out that he was organising a testimonial match, a lot of people have indicated interest in being involved.

Yobo further revealed that Didier Drogba, Samuel Eto and his former Everton colleague, Wayne Rooney are possibly going to feature in the match.

The hard-tackling defender who spent majority of his club career in the English top flight with Everton FC, added that his erstwhile boss David Moyes would be coming into the country for the game which is to be played on May 27, at the Adokiye Amiesimaka stadium, Port Harcourt, Rivers state.

“My former manager David Moyes has said he’ll come. I was his first signing and I’m honoured he has agreed”, Yobo told reporters at the press briefing.

The press conference was a star-studded event as former Super Eagles players and coaches-Kanu Nwankwo, Austin Jay-Jay Okocha, Christian Chukwu, Amodu Shuaibu, among others– were on hand to support their colleague.
