Nigerian singer and actor, Idowu Adeyemi, popularly known as Yhemolee, has voiced his displeasure over the increasing trend of begging on social media platforms.
In a recent post, the entertainer observed that many people now use social media primarily to seek financial help from strangers, turning what was once a space for connection into a “begging hub.”
He explained that the main difference between street beggars and online beggars is simply internet access, as many users have become skilled at asking for money under the guise of engagement.
“It’s no longer news that social media isn’t social media anymore. It’s now a begging site. The only difference is that unlike the beggars on the road, the beggars on the internet have data.
“These days, when you post a picture, the first ten comments are account numbers. My major problem is those who have a PhD in begging. Please omit all those begging from my own picture,” he said.
Yhemolee, who rose to fame with his hit song “Mon Cheri” featuring Chinko Ekun and Asake, has also made a name for himself in Nollywood with appearances in “Gangs of Lagos” and “Alakada: Bad and Boujee.”
