It is no longer news that some highly placed Nigerians have tested positive of COVID-19, and that there are also fears that some of their ilks, kith and kin, and praise singers who hang around them may also test positive.
One of such persons who has actually tested positive is the chief of staff to President of Nigeria, Abba Kyari.
Due to his position, he has also met with numerous persons including the governor of Kogi State , Yahaya Bello, who he actually shaked hands with.
It will be senseless to say that because Kyari shaked hands with Bello that the latter has contracted the virus.
However, Bello as a responsible citizen of Nigeria and foremost indigene of Kogi, the governor should self isolate because many look up to him for guidance and directive.
It is not at this stage that Bello should be making public videos wishing people who suggest that he has COVID-19, HIV.
The content of the video where he said shows that he is just spiteful and not fit for being a leader.
He should purge himself of the appalling behavioural pattern he and Dino Melaye have come to inflict on themselves, abusing people who do not say what they like to hear.
Let us review what he said in the video.
That a governor who is supposed to be a role model and fatherly figure is wishing any one HIV, a disease with no known cure and of which still attracts a lot stigma in our society is outrageous.
Secondly, at this moment of concern, where the most important words are self isolation and social distancing, Bello is challenging his perceived detractors to a box bouting.
Bello himself should at this point be practising these two acts and encouraging his ilks, kith and kin, and praise singers who swarm around him to follow suit.
But he is not doing this, instead he is making a mockery of the people and abusing the power given to him.
If this were any other country and not Nigeria where the abnormal is the normal, he would have resigned or be forced to tender an apology.
For, what he said in the video is not only condescending but shows one with a shallow thinking not fit to be a governor.
But who am I to question his being the governor, Allah has willed it and the people of Kogi have casted their ballot (?) for him twice.
But let Yahaya Bello remember that he owes God and the people of Kogi who have installed him as governor , decency and decorum.
