Yahaya Bello, the former Governor of Kogi State, may be leaving Nigeria soon to visit a North African country where he has investments and one of his wives lives. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) raided Bello’s home in Abuja on Wednesday, but he was not arrested. The EFCC is looking for Bello because they believe he defrauded over N80 billion.
Sources say that Bello is planning to travel to Morocco where he has investments and his wife is located. He has two passports, one from a North African country and the other from an Arab nation where he has multi-million dollar investments, including in Dubai.
During Bello’s time in office, only a few local governments received government projects. The projects included hospitals with 50 beds, but no other local government received significant development. Sources claim that Bello enslaved the people of Kogi State during his eight-year tenure in office. He is accused of mismanagement, stealing, misplaced priorities, corruption, nepotism, killings, and oppression. Some people also suggest that occultic powers and unreported killings prompted by fear contributed to the suffering of Kogi State under Bello’s rule.
Sources speculate that Bello may have set aside millions of dollars for bail in court, suggesting that he is preparing to travel out of Nigeria.
