Ahead of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, a worker at one of the venue to host some of the matches has died from an electrocution. The man identified as Muhammad’Ali Maciel Afonso was reported to be 32-years-old and was installing communications equipment at the new Arena Pantanal in the western city of Cuiba when the accident occurred.
The Arena Pantanal is one of the many other stadiums yet to be completed with the tournament just weeks away. There are still seats to be fitted and other works to be completed at the stadium. The latest incident has brought to a total of eight death cases recorded during the building of the 12 stadiums for the World Cup.
He was reported to have died while working at the level 20 of the stadium and he was hit by electrical discharge on Thursday.
FIFA secretary through his twitter handle express is condolence to the family of the deceased, he tweeted:”Saddened by the death of worker Muhammad’Ali Maciel Afonso at Arena Pantanal today. My thoughts are with his family and colleagues”.
