For kissing footballer Jennifer Hermoso on the mouth following the World Cup final in Sydney, the head of the Spanish football federation, Luis Rubiales, has received harsh criticism in his native country.
Spain’s women defeated England 1-0 to win their first World Cup, but many Spaniards, including government leaders, were uneasy about the events that preceded the trophy presentation.
Consent is essential. “It is a sort of sexual assault that we women experience daily and that has gone unnoticed until now. Irene Montero, Spain’s Minister for Equality, posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, “Only a yes is a yes.
Ione Belarra, the minister for social rights, also discussed the incident on X.
“All of us wonder what they won’t do in private if they do this in front of all of Spain. Sexual assault on women must stop, she said.
All of the Spanish players were given hugs by Rubiales, but the 45-year-old also gave Hermoso a mouth kiss after hugging and kissing her on the cheek.
The 33-year-old said, “I didn’t like it.
Despite a significant disagreement between the team and coach Jorge Vilda over his techniques, Spain nonetheless won the World Cup.
“Ahead of the competition, some players walked out of the team in opposition, but Rubiales stood behind his coach.
Also defending himself over the encounter, Rubiales said to Radio Marca, “The kiss with Jenni? Idiots are present everywhere. You can’t pay attention to the nonsense being said when two individuals exchange an insignificant act of affection.
