Former Super Eagles shot stopper, Peter Rufai, believes Nigeria have come of age to stop a winless run against Argentina in next summer’s FIFA World Cup.
Nigeria has made it to the FIFA World Cup on five different occasions and have only had not to play the two-time world champions on a singular (France 98) of their four previous appearance- losing three times (USA 94, Korea/Japan 2002, South Africa 2010)- while they have been pitted against each other in Brazil come July.
Speaking to MTNFootball.com, Rufai, who managed to stop Argentina legend Diego Maradona from scoring in his last appearance on the world stage, said the team has grown in confidence to stop Lionel Messi and co.
“Argentina are favourite to win the World Cup no doubt, but I see the Eagles as tough and a team good enough to beat Argentina in Brazil,” said Rufai.
“We have top and good players home and abroad. I therefore believe these Eagles will beat Argentina and go on to do well in the World Cup.”
