Renowned Nigerian actress and producer, Uche Jombo, emphasized the heightened effort that career-oriented women put in to achieve success, particularly in the entertainment industry. In an interview with Saturday Beats, she discussed the challenges faced by women striving for excellence and enduring relevance in their respective fields.
Jombo noted that some of her male counterparts who entered film production around the same time as her eventually shifted focus to other pursuits. Despite this, she remains dedicated to her craft, emphasizing the determination and hard work that women often exert to establish themselves. According to her, women, in general, tend to work doubly hard to prove their capabilities.
Reflecting on the hurdles women face in Nollywood, Jombo attributed the need for extra effort to the industry’s origins as a “boys club.” She explained that it takes time for women to be taken seriously when venturing into film production. Uche Jombo cited her film ‘Damaged’ as a significant milestone that garnered her recognition, breaking through the initial challenges she faced as a female executive producer and producer in the male-dominated industry.
