Languishing in a jail for what looks like a trump up charge of arms running and smuggling ,suspect, Theresa Francis, a native of , Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State remanded in Agbor prison months ago, has been delivered of a set of twins.
On the day her journey into troubled times would begin, Theresa, a dealer in baby wears reportedly boarded a vehicle on Benin-Agbor Express way with three male passengers already in the vehicle.
As the journey progressed, the vehicle was stopped by men of the police high way patrol. Curiously, as soon as the three male occupants saw the police team, they made a quick dash for the bush and made good their escape leaving Theresa alone in the vehicle.
Suspecting foul play, the Police began a thorough search and uncovered arms and ammunition in the vehicle for which Theresa and the driver of the vehicle were held. The driver claimed that he was hired by those men and Theresa. But Theresa denied the allegation but the police insisted on taking her in for more questioning.
Agbor prison officials, who confirmed her delivery on Saturday to Journalists, said her husband who also hails from Ibusa had abandoned her when this problem started and she was remanded.
In a recent visit to the prison, the State Chief Judge, Justice Zai-laye Smith, disclosed that her case was under proper review and added that evidence so far adduced might set her free.
However, Theresa has consistently pleaded innocent.
She said: “I am not a thief, how can I be pregnant and go for robbery?”
Sources close to the Chief Judge said that he was exercising caution having regard to the weight of the offence for which she was charged.
But President of a Civil Society group in the State, Mrs. Stella Oboh however appealed to the authorities to look into her case for the sake of her babies.
