“We have arrested a woman from Mfelandawonye Township on charges of infanticide. She allegedly killed her newborn baby in a chamber at a local medical centre and investigations are still in progress,” he said.

However, sources close to the matter said, Thubelihle Tshuma of House Number 16998, Mfelandawonye Township who was employed as a maid arrived at the medical centre when she was about to give birth and asked to use the toilet.

“She was shown the toilet by the nurses who did hot suspect that she was about to deliver. When she entered the toilet, she locked herself for a long time,” said the source.

The source added that after noticing that the woman had overstayed in the toilet, the nurses asked her to open the door but she refused.

“They used force to open the door and upon entering, they found her lying on the floor with blood all over. They then realised that she had given birth and on checking the infant, they noticed that it was dead,” said the source.
