April 26 2012 is a day Richard Agbesi, a 22-year-old footballer and son of a retired police officer will never forget to remember daily.
He woke up at dawn, as usual, to begin his training, but he never knew that before the end of that he would change from the lady’s dude into a Shrek clone.
Walking with confidence as he made his way to the training pitch to join his teammates, he decided to help himself to some mangoes at the backyard of a certain Madam Ama Kese.
Unknown to Richard, the woman was hiding behind the mango tree with a cupful of acid. As Abgesi bends down to pick a mango fruit, Madam Kese poured the acid in his face and started shouting “Ewi oo, Ewi oo”, to wit “thief, thief”.
When neighbours rushed to the scene, they saw Agbesi in pain as he tried to find his way. He was rushed to the St. Theresa’s Hospital but the situation was so serious that the victim was referred to the Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for further treatment.
The Nkoranza police arrested the woman and she has since been granted bail.
Richard now lies helpless in the hospital, blind as a bat.
He was weeping uncontrollably when he heard his friends were there to console him.
Speaking, Agbesi’s colleague, who is also a footballer, Michael Nsoah, said all of Agbesi’s friends were devastated because he was such a good player, adding that it was unfortunate his career had to come to an end due to the incident.
According to Nsoah, if anyone tried to kill the case, they would have no option but to retaliate.
Agbesi’s friends are so peeved that if the woman is not arranged before court, it is likely they would carry out their threat to give her an acid bath.
