Dan Nwanyanwu, presidential candidate of the Zenith Labour Party, ZLP, has stated that some other presidential candidates will not go far in addressing fuel scarcity in Nigeria because they are complicit in oil theft.
Nwanyanwu also stated on Channels TV on Wednesday that his administration will put all refineries in the country to use within four months and sell petrol at N100 per litre within six months of taking office.
Most stations are currently selling petrol for around N350 per litre, while the official pump price is N185 per litre.
“When you get to the root of a problem you will be able to find a solution, you will be able to treat it but all these my colleagues, none of them will go this far because it’s either you are wittingly involved.
“It’s like somebody involved in dealing with importing generators for example and you say he will give you light, he will not give you light. Somebody that is involved in oil bunkering will not allow refineries to work, he will want fuel to be sold at 1,000.
“Within six months, I will sell fuel N100 in this country, I calculated it, all these refineries will be put to use within three to four months and at the same time simultaneously we are installing modern refineries in each geopolitical zone; this thing will disappear.
“This idea of subsidy and all that is created, what are we subsiding? You are not ashamed as a country, a nation that your products, you throw it somewhere, they will bring back just three items, petrol, kerosene and diesel. What happens to the others including your gear oil and all those? They take it away you don’t talk about it. I won’t allow that to happen under my nose. These my colleagues are involved, most of them are involved in these deals they cannot do it.”
He also said that insecurity has lasted because some people are benefitting from it, adding that some people have become millionaires and billionaires through insecurity.
He said, “It is possible in other climes; Mallam El-Rufai told us and when he said so I remember the intel I had that they see this insurgence, they listen to their discussions, they know where they are but when they pass the information, noting happens.
“We have to cover the entire area, look at how a local government chairman was brutally and callously murdered few days ago. It was possible to be somewhere and watch it even before they did it; we have the resources to get these things done, it is the political will. The people are benefitting from the system, they will not allow it to go, but I will get it done.
“This insecurity has lasted because people are benefitting from it. There are many billionaires in the system; don’t push me too far, people have become billionaires and millionaires.
“Most of the allocations for insecurity were taken away.”
Nwanyanwu also said that N100, N200, N500 and N1000 notes will be changed to coins so as to curb corruption and money laundering.
“I will abolish N100, N200, N500 and N1000 naira notes and turn them into coins so those who collect bribes, by the time you are giving them N10,000, they are walking you will hear noise in their pockets,” he said.
“Those who pack money and put in soak aways, water tanks; they will have to build a warehouse as big as Asokoro and Wuse 2 and use it to be packing coins
“Corruption is at the root of all the problems we have,” he added.
He also promised that his government will unify Nigerians.
He also promised to ensure his government improves electricity within six to nine months of getting to power, adding that the national anthem will be changed to the old one because it is attached to the hearts of Nigerians.
