Ayobami Suberu, the WAEC Branch Controller for Ogun State, has dismissed claims from an online media report alleging that the results of some public-school students in the state were withheld due to unpaid debts.
According to a statement from Lekan Adeniran, Chief Press Secretary to the Ogun State Governor, Suberu addressed the media on Tuesday to set the record straight.
The report falsely implied that the Ogun State Government owed WAEC, leading to the delay in releasing students’ results.
Suberu called the report “mischievous and unbalanced,” stressing that the Ogun State Government is not in debt to WAEC.
He clarified that the delay was caused by a technical issue, which is currently being resolved.
Suberu also noted that ongoing communication with WAEC’s Head of the Test Administration Division is aimed at resolving the matter quickly.
He stated, “Let me categorically say that Ogun State is not owing WAEC anything.
“A senior official from the Ogun State Ministry of Education contacted me about the report, and I confirmed that there was no truth to it; the report of indebtedness is not balanced and is mischievous.”
Suberu criticized the reporting, adding, “It’s unethical for a reporter to publish a story without getting WAEC’s side.
“The truth is that the delay was due to a technical glitch, and we are working tirelessly to ensure the results are released by Tuesday.”
He assured that the results, affecting 1,685,889 candidates, representing 93.9 percent of those who took the exams, would be made available by the end of the day.
