Renowned activist VeryDarkMan has scrutinized the reasons behind the Grammy Awards’ decision to snub all nominated Nigerian artists. In the 2024 Grammy Awards, five Nigerian artists including Burna Boy, Davido, Asake, Olamide, and Ayra Starr were nominated, but none emerged as winners.
Expressing his criticism, VeryDarkMan accused the Grammys of trying to prevent Afrobeat from gaining full control over them. He argued that Shakti’s album, “This Moment,” which won the Best Global Music Album, has less than 1 million total views on YouTube, questioning its merit.
Furthermore, VeryDarkMan admitted to being unaware of Tyla until recently and believed Ayra Starr sang the song “Water” that garnered attention. He suggested that the Grammys extended numerous nominations to Nigerian performers to enhance the excitement of the awards ceremony.
