Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Phyna Otabor, has sparked controversy with her recent announcement about renouncing her surname, citing personal reasons.
In 2022, NAIJALOG reported that Phyna faced backlash on social media, with her family accusing her of abandonment following her victory on the reality show.
In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), the Edo-born reality TV star explained her decision to part ways with her family name.
In a surprising revelation, Phyna admitted that it has been confirmed she has no real family ties or connections to her origins.
She shared that she has been experiencing a difficult period, recounting how trusted relatives mistreated her during her childhood, a reality she didn’t recognize at the time due to her innocence.
Her post read:
“I am officially dropping my family surname, OTABOR. It’s been proven that I have no actual family, and no one knows how I came to be. Things have been extremely tough for me lately, and I’m in a state I can’t even describe.”
She added, “Growing up and being passed around among relatives should have raised suspicion, but I guess I was too young to realize.”
