Nasir El-Rufai, the governor of Kaduna state, has revealed three reasons why he is speaking out against President Muhammadu Buhari’s naira redesign scarcity.
While noting that the All Progressives Congress (APC) governors have intelligence that some elements close to the President are collaborating with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential flagbearer, Atiku Abubakar, he stated that he must lead the opposition to the policy.
The governor of Kaduna stated three reasons for his actions in an interview with Premium Times.
El-Rufai stated that he is the closest to President Buhari among the APC governors because they have been together since the days of the defunct Congress of Progressives Change (CPC) before the merger that formed the APC ahead of the 2015 general election.
He went on to say that it is his responsibility to tell the president the truth about the policy he is implementing and why it should not be rushed.
The governor’s second reason is that many APC members believe in Buhari. They publicized him and persuaded many Nigerians to vote for him.
He went on to say that they have no regrets about being Buharists, and that:
“Whatever the failure of this administration might have been, it is still much better than the direction President Jonathan’s administration was taking us to.”
El-Rufai went on to say that the APC loyalists labeled as Buharists are also responsible for ensuring his legacy is preserved.
He emphasized that they must protect his dignity because those around him, in their opinion, are unconcerned about it because what matters to “these elements” is maintaining their power and privileges.
