Dr. Olayemi Cardoso, the recently confirmed Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has warned that neither he nor his team would be used by politicians.
He claims that the impact of hijacking and doing things incorrectly has already been felt, and they do not want it to happen again.
The CBN Governor provided the reassurance on Tuesday while appearing with his deputies for the Senate’s screening.
Emem Nnana Usoro, Philip Ikeazor, Muhammad Sani Abdullahi Dattijo, and Dr. Bala M. Bello are the deputy governors.
Cardoso pledged that this won’t happen in response to a question from Senate President Godswill Akpabio during his screening on whether he would be swayed and hijacked by politics when he assumed office.
It is crucial that those of us being considered for this position today realize that it is a position of trust, in his own words.
“That entails a significant obligation to live up to that trust. I am aware that a great deal of thought and effort went into selecting the candidates who are here today for nomination.
“As far as I am concerned, under my leadership, we will not be hijacked by anybody. The idea is to ensure that we do what is right, when it is right, and how it is right. We’ve seen what the effect of not doing right has been, and we do not intend for that to be repeated.”
