West Ham United have parted ways with Julen Lopetegui after a disappointing seven months in charge, leaving the team in 14th place in the Premier League standings.
Former Chelsea manager Graham Potter is expected to take over, with his debut anticipated in the FA Cup clash against Aston Villa on Friday night.
In a statement, the club addressed the decision:
“The first half of the 2024/25 season has not met the club’s ambitions, and action has been taken in line with its objectives.
The board extended gratitude to Lopetegui and his staff, stating, “We thank Julen and his team for their efforts during their time with the Hammers and wish them all the best in their future endeavors.”
Lopetegui’s tenure, which began last summer following David Moyes’ departure, yielded just six wins in 20 league games. Defensive issues were a persistent problem, with the team conceding 39 goals—surpassed only by Wolves, Leicester City, and Southampton this season.
