Nollywood actor Kunle Remi has delivered a harsh verdict on the Nigerian leg of IShowSpeed’s ongoing “Speed Does Africa” tour, ranking the country at the very bottom of the list compared to other nations the streamer has visited.
A Show of Shame?
Following the American content creator’s chaotic time in Lagos, which involved everything from viral street moments to aggressive crowds, Remi took to Instagram to express his disappointment. He argued that the visit failed to highlight true Nigerian heritage and instead exposed a culture now defined by desperation and a lack of substance.
The Verdict
The actor lamented that the “essence of culture” has been lost, replaced by people begging for money (“beggy beggy skills”) and fake products.
He wrote:
“After watching Ishowspeed’s journey so far, Nigeria is the worst on my own list. We just really stripped Lagos naked… no be say anything dey under the clothes before sha. Seems like we have lost the essence of culture. Our truth! All we have is fake drinks and beggy, beggy skills.”
Context
Remi’s critique aligns with a broader conversation about how Nigerians interact with international visitors. Meanwhile, IShowSpeed has defended his approach to the tour, reiterating that his goal was to bypass established influencers to find raw, unseen talent on the streets, though Remi suggests what was found in Lagos was far from flattering.
