The Nigerian Federal Government is currently facing significant challenges and a revenue deficit, which is compounded by the country’s rapidly growing population. The Minister of Budget and National Planning, Atiku Bagudu, has disclosed that the government is finding it difficult to pay salaries, and has called on non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to assist in areas where the government is unable to provide adequate support. Bagudu also highlighted that Nigeria’s population is increasing at a rapid pace, and there is a high rate of unemployment, which is further exacerbated by inflation.
According to Bagudu, the government is experiencing enormous difficulties in managing its finances, and there is a substantial deficit in revenue generation. He revealed that the government is barely able to pay salaries, and the growth rate in the country is very slow. The population growth rate, on the other hand, is fast-pacing, leading to unemployment surging amid high inflation. Dr. Sarah Alade, a former acting governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, has emphasized the need for the government to collaborate with Non-State Actors (NSAs) to achieve economic development and lift millions of Nigerians out of poverty.
