The All Progressives Congress, APC, has begun talks with Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike ahead of the 2023 elections.
Farouk Aliyu, an APC chieftain, stated that the party wants Wike’s support in the upcoming general elections.
Since the party’s presidential primaries, Wike and his supporters have been at odds with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leadership.
The governor had lost the PDP presidential ticket to Atiku Abubakar and has been calling for the removal of the party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu.
Aliyu, on the other hand, stated that the APC was ready to accept Wike as a new member ahead of the next general election.
Aliyu revealed this last night on Channels Television’s Politics Today.
“We’re talking to Wike,” he said. We’re talking to a lot of them. Of course, politics is involved. So, we are not enemies of Wike, and he is a very important person in this country – a governor, in fact – and Rivers State cannot be ignored.
“So, if Wike decides to come to us, we would gladly welcome him, and I can confirm that we are in contact with him.”
Meanwhile, Wike endorsed Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for a second term on Tuesday.
Sanwo-Olu is a member of the APC, a move that has further deepened the PDP crisis.
