England and Manchester United Striker has expressed confidence that he will be fit before the start of the 2014 FIFA World Cup tournament in Brazil.
While expressing his battle with fitness in the last two World Cup tournaments, he told Daily Mail that, “Previously I have always been going into the first game looking for fitness and it’s difficult to get your breathing right and the rest of it. This time I honestly feel good. I have looked after myself as well as I can to be as fit as I can for this tournament.”
In the 2006 and 2010 World Cup, the Striker battle with metatarsal injury and hurting ankle respectively. He eventually featured at both campaign because of his importance to the England squad.
Ahead of the World Cup he said. “I will be ready. I’m looking forward to it. I really want to be hundred percent fit this time and, barring an injury in training before we go, I will be totally ready.”
England has been drawn in Group D one of the toughest in the tournament against Italy, Uruguay, and Costa Rica. Rooney has played 89 times for England has scored a total of 39 goals.
While trying to dispel critics of the England team as regards their chances of progressing,he said: “It’s exciting. I believe we can go all the way in Brazil, I really believe that. We have a great group of young players. It’s going to be difficult. There is a chance we could go out at the group stage but I really believe we have a group good enough to go a long way.”
