The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced that it is moving away from the traditional paper and pencil test model for its WASSCE for Private Candidates exam. The announcement was made in a statement released by the acting head of the Public Affairs Unit of WAEC, Moyosola Adesina. According to the statement, the CBE (Computer Based Examination) will commence with the WASSCE for Private Candidates, 2024—First Series, which is scheduled to take place in February 2024. The objective tests will be fully computer-based, while the essay and test of practical papers will be hybrid, meaning that the examination questions will be delivered on screen and candidates will be required to write answers on the answer booklets given to them. The examination will be conducted in urban centers and cities, and candidates with special needs have been factored into the plan. Registration for the exam will commence on Monday, December 18, 2023. Candidates will be able to familiarize themselves with the new examination platform through a mock examination to be conducted in February 2024 before the actual exam commences. The Council encourages all prospective candidates to hone their computer skills and be fully prepared to embrace this innovation. In conclusion, the Council’s vision is that shortly all its examinations will be delivered via the computer, as it aims to provide qualitative and reliable educational assessment and encourage academic and moral excellence.
