Vice President Kashim Shettima has left Abuja for the United States to participate in the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
A statement released on Sunday by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media & Communications (Office of the Vice President), confirmed that Shettima’s departure was at the request of President Bola Tinubu. The President asked Shettima to lead the Nigerian delegation at the global forum while he remained focused on addressing urgent domestic matters, such as the recent devastating floods.
At the UNGA session, Vice President Shettima will deliver Nigeria’s national statement, attend important side meetings, and hold bilateral discussions.
The General Debate, with the theme “Leaving No One Behind: Acting Together for the Advancement of Peace, Sustainable Development, and Human Dignity for Present and Future Generations,” is set to run from September 24 to September 28, 2024.
