Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has made headlines after a brief stumble while announcing the 2025 budget figure during its presentation to the Edo State House of Assembly on Tuesday.
The proposed budget, totaling ₦605 billion, has been tagged the “Budget of Renewed Hope for a Rising Edo” and represents a 25% increase from the previous year’s allocation. Despite the viral moment, Governor Okpebholo quickly regained his composure and outlined the budget’s key priorities.
The budget allocates ₦223 billion (37%) to recurrent expenditure and ₦381 billion (63%) to capital projects, focusing on fostering economic development. Governor Okpebholo emphasized that the proposal reflects extensive stakeholder consultations and aligns with his administration’s five-point agenda: security, infrastructure, healthcare, food sufficiency, and education.
A highlight of the budget is the ₦162 billion earmarked for road infrastructure, including the long-anticipated Ramat Park flyover in Benin City, a transformative project designed to improve transportation and reduce traffic congestion.
