Nigerian activist and social commentator, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly called Verydarkman, has criticised those he believes failed late Ruth Otabor, sister of reality TV star Phyna, who recently passed away following a tragic accident involving a Dangote truck.
Ruth’s death was officially announced on Sunday by Eko Solicitors & Advocates, representing the Otabor family. She had been undergoing treatment for severe injuries sustained near Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State, before succumbing weeks later.
Reacting in a viral video, Verydarkman faulted President Bola Tinubu, the Dangote Group, and social media influencers, accusing them of abandoning Ruth when she desperately needed advanced medical care.
He stated:
“Phyna’s sister has finally kpai, a lot of people are lending their voices to the RIP but when we needed those voices to pressure Dangote to do the right thing, 19 days was what she spent at the hospital but many refused to post because it won’t give them engagement. You bunch are hypocrites, may God forgive your souls. Nigeria has failed us. President Bola Tinubu, you have failed us all. And to Dangote Group, are you happy now? You had the time to take that girl abroad to treat her.”
His comments came shortly after the Dangote Group released a condolence statement, expressing sadness over Ruth’s passing. The company noted that both it and its insurance partners had been handling her medical and financial expenses since the crash.
According to Dangote, preparations were already in place to fly Ruth to India for advanced treatment, pending clearance from her doctors. Sadly, she died before the transfer could take place.
