Popular social media critic Martins Otse, widely known as Verydarkman (VDM), has reacted to President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, raising concerns about the role of Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in the decision.
In a video shared online, VDM voiced his disapproval of the six-month suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and all members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Questioning Wike’s influence, he asked, “Who is really the President of Nigeria?”—suggesting that the former Rivers governor played a key role in shaping the president’s decision.
On Tuesday, March 18, Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, citing ongoing political instability. Alongside this, he appointed retired Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas as the state’s administrator for the initial six-month period.
VDM, however, speculated that Wike orchestrated Ibas’ nomination, adding to rumors that Wike might be positioning himself for a 2032 presidential bid.
Additionally, he criticized Governor Fubara for defying Wike without a well-thought-out political strategy, arguing that his lack of preparation ultimately led to his downfall.
Expressing his frustration, VDM remarked, “Who is really the President of Nigeria? Why does Wike always get what he wants? How can they suspend a sitting governor for six months and force him out of the government house?”
