President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday rewarded the Super Eagles (home based) team for their excellent performances at the last African Nations Championship,(CHAN), with cash rewards.
President Jonathan who specifically described their performances as heart-warming, announced cash gifts of N1.5 million for the Head Coach; N1 million each for the two assistant Coaches; N1 million each for the players and N500, 000 for each of other officials of the team.
Speaking at the presidential reception of the team held at the banquet hall of the Presidential Villa, President Jonathan said he was particularly impressed because of the attributes they exhibited during the competition most especially during the game between Morocco and Nigeria.
He said by winning the match from three goals down in the first half, they exhibited uncommon degree of resilience, discipline and courage.
He also noted that with the achievements being recorded, it shows that the efforts of government in supporting sports are yielding positive results.
Jonathan assured that the Federal Government would continue to give maximum support to sporting men and women to realise their potentials.
Earlier, the Minister of Sports, Bolaji Abdullahi appreciated President Jonathan for deeming it fit to appreciate the team for their efforts in winning the bronze at the competition.
