The United States government has published the 2025 Visa Waiver Program (VWP) list, detailing countries whose citizens can travel to the US without a visa for up to 90 days.
Reports indicate that the United Kingdom was not included in the program but remains eligible under specific conditions.
Notably, no African country— including Nigeria, Ghana, or South Africa— was listed. While most participating nations remained unchanged, Romania was newly added, marking a significant update.
According to the US Bureau of Consular Affairs, the VWP allows citizens from eligible countries to visit the US for tourism or business without requiring a visa. However, travelers must first obtain approval through the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) before departure.
“Travellers must secure a valid ESTA approval before traveling and fulfill all necessary requirements. Those who prefer a visa may still apply for a visitor visa,” the US agency stated.
To enhance security measures, the US has tightened eligibility criteria, prioritizing countries with strong diplomatic relations and robust border security standards.
The latest update is aimed at facilitating seamless visa-free travel for approved visitors, supporting tourism, business, and transit to the US.
As of 2025, 40 countries are included in the Visa Waiver Program, granting their citizens visa-free entry to the United States.
