The United Kingdom has formally aligned with the United States and Israel in the escalating conflict involving Iran.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer made the announcement during a nationwide broadcast on Saturday, confirming Britain’s participation in coordinated defensive efforts.
He stated that UK military aircraft are currently engaged in regional operations aimed at safeguarding national interests and allied partners.
“Our forces are active, and British planes are in the sky today as part of coordinated regional defensive operations to protect our people, our interests, and our allies.”
Starmer also called on Iran to halt further aggression and abandon its weapons initiatives, urging a return to diplomatic engagement.
“Iran can end this now. They should restrain from further strikes. Give up their weapon programs and cease the appalling violence and repression against the Iranian people. This is the root to escalation and back to the negotiation table.”
The development significantly heightens tensions across the Middle East. Earlier on Saturday, the United States and Israel reportedly carried out strikes on Iran, prompting retaliatory attacks from Iranian forces targeting US military bases in the region. Reports also indicate that an Iranian missile struck parts of Israel.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia has declared its readiness to protect its territorial integrity amid the growing crisis.
