A University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) student, Rhoda, who was abducted while traveling to Port Harcourt for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has been released after a ransom of ₦2.5 million was paid.
The news of her release was shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, by a well-known social media influencer who initially brought attention to the kidnapping.
The influencer launched a crowdfunding campaign to help raise the ₦2.5 million demanded by the kidnappers for Rhoda’s freedom. Within 24 hours of starting the fundraiser, he confirmed her safe release, posting, “Happy to announce that Rhoda has been released and is safe now. Thank you all for your donations. Only God can reward your labor of love 🙏🏾.”
He also mentioned that more details would be shared later, as Rhoda needed time to rest and reunite with her family.
The update was met with an outpouring of gratitude and support, with many commending the influencer’s efforts and sending words of encouragement to Rhoda and her family.
