Due to allegations of sexual harassment of female students, the University of Calabar has suspended Prof. Cyril Ndifon, dean of the law faculty.
His suspension was stated in a letter from the institution’s registrar, Gabriel Egbe, dated August 17, 2023.
According to the letter, Ndifon was suspended because of a violation of the institution’s current rules and policies.
The same allegations of sexual assault against female students led to the university’s arrest, detention, and suspension of Ndifon in 2015.
Female law students demonstrated on campus a few days earlier with signs, demanding that he be fired.
The slogans on several of the posters were “Ndifon must go!” Law girls are not a bonanza, we’re sick of sucking dicks for marks, and Prof. Ndifon needs to stop touching our bum bums.
The suspension, according to the letter, followed Ndifon’s response to a question that had previously been posed to him by University management.
According to reports, the Vice Chancellor was not pleased with Prof. Ndifon’s response to the question posed to him.
The VC then gave the order to suspend Ndifon and remove him from his role as Dean.
A panel will be assembled to look into the accusations made against him after the authorities referred the case to it.
The Vice Chancellor has read your written arguments and is not pleased with your justifications. She has therefore ordered that you be removed from your role as dean of the faculty of law and placed on administrative leave while the matter is referred to a panel that will be formed to look into these claims. From August 17, 2023, the position of Dean of the Faculty of Law will be vacant, and there will be a suspension from all official responsibilities.
Before leaving your position, “you are to hand over to the Sub-Dean of the Faculty all university property in your possession, including all official responsibilities currently handled by you.”Except when responding to invitations from the panel investigating these claims, you must avoid entering University property.
