Preliminary tests have revealed that the first health care worker who treated the first person in the United States to die from Ebola has also contracted the deadly virus.
The Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS)in a statement on Sunday said that the health worker a staff of Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital reported a low-grade fever on Friday night and was isolated and referred for testing.
Though TDSHS is keeping the identity of the latest victim under mum, Dr. David Lakey, commissioner of the health service, said , “we knew a second case could be a reality, and we’ve been preparing for this possibility,”
“Health officials have interviewed the patient and are identifying any contacts or potential exposures. People who had contact with the healthcare worker after symptoms emerged will be monitored based on the nature of their interactions and the potential they were exposed to the virus,” the statement said.
