Trinity Gay was shot in the neck at Cook Out restaurant in Lexington early on Sunday morning.
She was rushed to hospital, but died of her injuries, according to officials.
Tyson told LEX 18: “She didn’t make it. I’m so confused. She was just here last week for fall break. It’s so crazy. I have no idea what happened.”
Gunfire was heard at around 4am at the restaurant and cops responded according to WKYT.
There was shooting between two vehicles described as a dark colored sports car and a grey Dodge Charger.
Trinity was said to be in neither vehicle and may have been a bystander.
She was following in her father’s footsteps and making a name for herself as a track star.
Trinity was making a name for herself as an athlete at Lafayette High School.
Julian Tackett, commissioner of the Kentucky High School Athletics Association, wrote on Twitter: “Shocked to hear of death of Trinity Gay. A life of such potential cut so tragically short. Sympathies to Tyson and entire family.”
