South African singer Tyla has made history by surpassing Beyoncé’s record for the most-streamed album by a Black female artist released in 2024.
Tyla’s self-titled debut album achieved 1.565 billion streams on Spotify, overtaking Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter, which garnered 1.564 billion streams. This milestone also makes Tyla’s album the most-streamed album of all time by a female African artist.
The album’s lead single, Water, has nearly a billion streams on Spotify and earned the inaugural Best African Music Performance award at the 66th Grammys.
Despite its commercial success, Tyla’s album and its deluxe edition were notably excluded from the nominations for the 67th Grammys.
