The Nigeria Police Force has announced the arrest of two suspected internet fraudsters known as ‘Yahoo Boys.’
The suspects were apprehended after killing a 40-year-old man named Abdullahi Azeez as part of a money-making ritual.
In June.l7, the crime was committed in Ogun State.
The suspects, identified as Friday Abinya Odeh, 21, and Poso Idowu, 20, are accused of dismembering their victim and using him in a money-making ritual.
The suspects were arrested on September 22, 2022, according to a statement issued by the state police command on Sunday, following a report lodged at Owode Egba divisional headquarters on June 9, 2022, by the victim’s relatives.
According to a statement signed by the command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the victim’s relatives reported that Azeez, 40, left his home in the Kobape area of the state on June 8, 2022, and had not returned since.
“Upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, directed the state Criminal Investigation Department’s anti-kidnapping unit to take over the investigation and unravel the mystery behind the man’s sudden disappearance,” the statement said.
“In accordance with the CP’s directive, the SP Taiwo Opadiran-led team subsequently embarked on technical and intelligence-based investigation, which led them to the hideout of Friday Abinya Odeh on September 22nd, 2022, where the Airtel SIM card of the victim was found,”
“His arrest resulted in the arrest of his accomplice, Poso Idowu.” During interrogation, the suspects admitted that they kidnapped the victim on June 8, 2022, around 7:30 p.m., and took him to the bush, where they killed him and dismembered his body.
“They also admitted that the ritual was prescribed for them by one herbalist simply identified as Arab money, whom they claimed to have contacted on Facebook.” All efforts to recover the victim’s remains were futile because the suspects claimed to have disposed of them.”
However, the statement stated that the commissioner, Bankole, has directed that the suspects be charged in court “as soon as the investigation is completed.”
