President Bola Tinubu has met with the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), governors, and lawmakers-elect ahead of the June 10 swearing-in of the 10th National Assembly.
The meeting took place on Wednesday, June 7, at the presidential palace in Abuja just after the closing remarks of the 9th Assembly, according to Daily Trust.
Yusuf Adamu Gagdi, Sada Soli, Muktar Betara, and Miriam Onuoha were among the lawmakers present who were running for speaker.
Even though invitations were issued to them, the incumbent deputy speaker of the house, Ahmed Idris Wase, and Aminu Sani Jaji, who were also running for speaker of the 10th House of Representatives, were noticeably missing.
At the meeting, it was revealed that the president had urged the legislators to back APC candidates for the leadership seats in the Senate and the House of Representatives.
According to reports, Tinubu emphasized the necessity for APC legislators to ensure the success of the party’s nominees for the 10th assembly’s leadership.
He continued by pleading with them to support and work for Akpabio, Barau, Abbas, and Kalu, noting that the APC had backed them in order to bring about national stability.
He stated that the leadership of the 10th National Assembly is responsible for his administration’s achievements.
