Two killed in Kogi as police, robbers engage in gun battle

The Kogi State Police Command has foiled a robbery operation in one of the new generation banks in Lokoja, the State capital, killing two of the robbers and arresting two others after a gun battle.

Sources gathered that the armed robbers numbering six stormed the new generation bank in Lokoja around 11 am but were confronted by the police before they could gain entrance to the bank.

The State Commissioner of Police, Muhammed Musa Katsina said the armed robbers came to the premises of the bank attempting to rob customers who came to transact business.

He said the robbers who are from Imo state has already taken positions for the operation when intelligence report got to the ambush squad of the command, adding that they mobilized and confronted the robbers but on sighting the Police, the robbers engaged them in a gun battle while trying to escape.

According to him, luck ran out on the robbers when they ran into the bush where two of them were gunned down, two others arrested while two escaped.

Katsina said the police did not recorded any casualty during the gun battle, saying that they are on the trail of the two escaped suspects and their accomplice.

The CP who gave the named of those arrested alive as Kenneth Nnorom and Vincent Madu assured the public that the command is ready to combat crime in the state to ensure crime free festive period.
